141 A A Serving guests in downtown Birmingham since 1914, The Historic Tutwiler Hotel is a true gem of architecture and Southern hospitality. Having always adored the historic qualities of this beautiful venue, floral designer Ricky Whitley was inspired to recreate the feel of Old Hollywood glamour in the 1950's. Madison Guthrie, Miss Alabama USA 2015, steps into the role of the bride stunningly in the Ollie Alice tea-length dress by Heidi Elnora. Of course, any bride would love that this design features pockets, perfect for hiding a tissue on demand! Only Mikimoto pearls from Bromberg's would complement a look so perfectly classic. On the steps of The Tutwiler, grand trumpets vases with large rose balls draped in clematis flank the ceremony setting. As the couple says, "I do!" rose petals begin to flit and dance from the sky. Inside the hotel ballroom, a simplistically beautiful reception is set, inviting guests to taste a sumptuous dinner prepared by Century Bar & Restaurant. A sea of glowing candlelight surrounds centerpieces of mercury glass overflowing with roses, seeded eucalyptus, and delicate lamb's ear. Dinner service includes an enticing selection of offerings by Century Bar & Restaurant, which includes: pan seared gulf swordfish with late summer panzanella; charred tomato vinaigrette and basil pesto; slow roasted Hereford teres major with pomme puree, baby carrots and asparagus, charred red onion, and sauce bordelaise; and crispy pork belly with an heirloom tomato and field pea salad and sherry gastrique. Nestled in an alcove just outside the ballroom window is a delectable, three-tiered cake with rose-colored buttercream and sugar flowers carefully crafted by Olexa's Café, Cakes & Catering. When the evening's festivities are complete, Ron Marko of Vintage Auto Chauffeur transports the couple to their next adventure in a 1939 Rolls Royce Wraith. Guests continue the celebration in the ballroom before retiring to their rooms or venturing into the downtown nightlife to toast their friends' fortune a time or two more.
